Swiss Kitesailing Association (SKA)
The Yacht-Club for all Kiters
with
an Olympic Mandate & Licensing for all Athletes.
Swiss Kitesailing Association (SKA) is the Swiss body for all kite classes and has an olympic mandate within Swiss Sailing (SUI Sailing). Founded in 1997, SKA is responsible for issuing race licences for its members, managing youth development programmes, and representing Switzerland at the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA).
With all the above we have supported our successfull Swiss athlethes throughout the brief history of formula kiting (olympic boat class) and other classes:
Formula Kite’s journey to the Olympics began in the early 2010s, when the International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) established the class to create a fair, high-performance racing format using hydrofoil boards and standardized equipment. In 2016, the first official Formula Kite World Championships took place, helping the discipline gain international recognition. A major breakthrough came in 2019, when World Sailing selected Formula Kite as the official kiteboarding class for the Paris 2024 Olympics. This decision marked the sport’s entry into the Olympic program, where it debuted in Marseille as the fastest sailing discipline, featuring separate men’s and women’s events and showcasing the speed and excitement of kitefoil racing.
